iTunes won't start when connected to network without internet

I use my MacBook to operate concert sound system gear. I'm always on my own dedicated local network with no connection to the internet. Recently I've noticed that iTunes won't start, which makes it difficult to do music playback. It just beachballs until I pull the Ethernet cable. Of course, when I pull the Ethernet cable, I lose sync with the mixer, the system controller, and everything else. Some of the programs will need to restart.

Does anybody body else here see this behavior, and/or have any suggestions?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Partial fix, under iTunes Preferences,

General > Look for Automatically retrieve CD Track Names from Internet (Disable This)

Sharing > Un-check ALL

Store > Un-check Music, TV shows, Movies, Apps, Always check for available DLs, Sync Playback Info..., Sync Podcasts.., Auto DL Album Art, and Share Details with Apple.

Restrictions > Check to Disable Podcasts, Internet Radio, iTunes Store, Allow access to i tunes U, Apple Music, Connect, Shared Libraries.

Advanced > Un-check Check for new software updates automatically.

That's an improvement. Still beachballs for almost exactly a minute, which can be forever when something unexpected happens and the presenter says "Put some music on."
